Safe Decision Week 2021 Launches For The 4th Year!
Safe Decisions Week is back again October 4-8, 2021! We have another great week of activities and community engagement planned to focus on keeping our students and families safe! Stay tuned for additional details as we get closer to the week!
Activities District-Wide
The week-long event will take place in all of the Nordonia schools from elementary to the high school. The week will focus on safety and health education and will include hands on learning to help high school drivers make safe driving decisions. Safe Decisions Week culminates Friday, October 8th at 5 p.m. The community is invited to a Nordonia Safety Resource Fair prior to the “SDW BLACK-OUT” football game against Stow at 7 p.m. The football team wear their Black uniforms which sport a patch signifying Safe Decisions Week. These uniforms were donated by our local businesses, Jill Gaba-State Farm Agent and Ohio Sports Chiropractic and Rehab. Monday – October 4th All schools in the district will participate in Mindfulness/Mental Health Monday focusing on mindfulness and safety. Tuesday – October 5th All schools will focus on Safety Tuesday. This includes being a safe passenger, bike safety, fire safety, and driver safety. High school students can participate in several interactive driver safety exercises during lunch. Students will have the opportunity to try Drive Team’s Skid Cart Simulator, sit in a semi-truck to experience Drive Team’s Semi-Truck Blind Spot Awareness, and drive Akron Children’s Hospital Distracted Driving Simulator. The Summit County Sheriff’s office will be at the high school to talk to the students about driver safety. Students will receive a Safe Decisions Week 2021 T-shirt for participating in a driver safety exercise. Wednesday – October 6th All schools will focus on Drug, Alcohol, Tobacco, Vape Education or Driving Safety High school students can participate in several interactive driver safety exercises during lunch. Friday – October 8th 5:00 p.m. – Free Pregame Community Safe Decisions Week Resource Fair Free and open to the community! Hot dogs, chips, bottled water, and resource tables offering information on safety and wellness. 7:00 p.m. - Wear Safe Decision Week black-out gear to the football game as the Knights host Stow. The team will wear their custom “Safe Decisions Week” Black uniforms. The community is encouraged to wear your Safe Decision Week blackout gear
